1.Introduction:

Epoxy zinc-rich primer is a two-component coating with epoxyresin as the base material, phosphor iron powder, rust-proof pigment, etc., and cured by polyamide. It is packed by dual components A and B. Characteristics: High shielding property, superior anti-rust property, strong adhesion, and good oil and water resistance.

2.Surface treatment:
The steel surface is shot blasted or sand blasted to Sa2.5 level, or manually rust-removed to St3 level.

3.Construction conditions:
The substrate temperature must be 3°C higher than the dew point, relative humidity <85%, wind force ≤ level 3; when the substrate temperature is lower than 5°C, the epoxy resin and curing agent stop reacting and construction should be stopped. Avoid rainy, foggy, windy and sandy days and condensation in the morning and evening for outdoor construction.

4.Notes:
1. Before use, use mechanical stirring to mix component A evenly, and then mix it evenly with component B.
2. Regularly stir during the coating process to prevent sedimentation, which can cause an imbalance in the powder to liquid ratio and affect the quality of the paint film.
3. It is recommended that the dry film thickness be ≥70μm, and 1 to 2 coats be completed.
4. After mixing, the two-component paint is generally used up within 5 hours. Exceeding the time may affect the coating quality.
5. After the curing agent is used up, it must be covered tightly and used up as soon as possible to prevent losses caused by reactions with water vapor in the air.

1. Pre-Construction Preparation

  • Material Preparation:

    • Check the shelf life and properly mix primers, intermediate coats, topcoats, and hardeners as per ratios.

  • Tool Preparation:

    • Prepare spraying equipment (e.g., air compressor, spray gun), brushing tools, sandpaper, grinders, masks, and gloves.

  • Substrate Inspection:

    • Ensure the base (metal/concrete) is flat, free of cracks, oil, or rust; repair if necessary.

  • Environmental Requirements:

    • Temperature: 5°C-35°C; humidity ≤85%.

    • Avoid rain, strong wind, or dusty conditions.

       

      2. Surface Treatment

    • Rust Removal:

      • Use sandblasting, shot blasting, or manual grinding to remove rust/oxidation, achieving Sa2.5 (uniform roughness) or St3 (no visible rust).

    • Degreasing:

      • Wipe with solvents to remove oil and dust.

    • Concrete Surface Treatment

    • Grinding:

      • Remove loose particles and smooth the surface; fill cracks with putty.

    • Drying:

      • Ensure moisture content ≤8% to prevent blistering.

         

        3. Coating Application

      • Primer Application:

        • Apply evenly via brushing/spraying (50-80μm thickness).

        • Allow drying per manufacturer's instructions (typically >24 hours).

      • Intermediate Coat:

        • Apply after primer curing (e.g., fiberglass-reinforced coat) for thickness/impermeability.

        • Sand smooth post-drying.

      • Topcoat Application:

        • Apply 2-3 layers for weather/chemical resistance.

        • Total thickness: 200-300μm (industrial use); inspect for bubbles/voids between layers.

           

          4. Quality Inspection & Acceptance

        • Visual Check:

          • Coating must be smooth, free of sagging, cracks, or pinholes; color uniformity required.

        • Thickness Test:

          • Use a thickness gauge (3+ random checks per ten squre meter; ≥90% compliance).

        • Adhesion Test:

          • Cross-cut test: No peeling = pass.

        • Spark Test:

          • Use a holiday detector to locate coating defects; repair if leaks found.
